Balcony Garden Ideas

If you have a balcony or patio that you want to make more beautiful and relaxing, landscaping it is the right thing to do. Your balcony will turn into an ideal place for relaxation after a hard day’s work or a pleasant evening with your loved ones. In fact, balcony landscaping and vertical gardening can create such conditions that people would often want to spend their weekend on it. With a small amount of investment and some imagination, you too can turn your balcony into an ideal hangout place. Here are some landscaping ideas for balconies:

Vertical gardening and vegetable garden growing plants with colorful flowers can create such calm and soothing atmosphere on your balcony that no other gardening technique could. Colorful pots of varying sizes and depths can be employed to add color and beauty to the garden. In addition, comfortable seating can be also added to enjoy serene natural scenes and mental peace. But there are certain limitations to this type of gardening.

As your balcony is usually attached to the house, you need to take care of the drainage problem that develops because of heavy rains or snowfall. So use non-slippery pots and avoid using pots that have large bases. It is also recommended that you limit the number of plants you will be able to grow on your balcony. It is best to select plants that will grow well together.

Another good balcony gardening ideas is using climbing plants to create a climbing frame around the balcony railing. These can be aromatic herbs that can be grown in hanging pots. Or use tall blooming grasses and ferns to give an elegant look to the entire patio. Use different sizes and colors of pots to create different textures and patterns in your garden. You can experiment by combining certain plants together to provide an outstanding look.

Use rocks to build an attractive platform to display plants and flowers. There are different types of rock available in the market. Slate, river rock, slate, sandstone, and boulders can be used for this purpose. However, you need to keep in mind that you should not put any sharp objects on the platform. It is best to use smaller pots that do not have sharp edges.

Use different size pots and plant colorful flowers that come in vibrant shades that can enhance the overall design of your garden. There are several types of pots that you can use to create a beautiful design. Large pots in terracotta can be used if you want to cover an area big enough for a platform. On the other hand, small pots in different colors can be used if you want a soothing effect. Just make sure not to over-populate your balcony space with pots.

Most people are afraid of heights but with good planning you can overcome this fear. If you are worried about heights you can choose a short vine that can reach the ground or you can use climbing plants in pots. Using appropriate colors and sizes of plant pots can enhance the look of your garden. Just use imagination to create some unique ideas that will compliment the color of your house and garden. Some people even use colorful hanging pots as a decorative element in their garden.

It is very important to grow plants that do not grow too fast. Taller varieties should be chosen over short growing plants. Also try growing vegetables that can handle cold weather conditions such as tomatoes. If you are not able to grow any of these vegetables in your garden you can buy some plastic pots to be placed in the balcony.
