Do Fountains Help Ponds In a Landscape?

Do fountains really help your ponds look good? The answer depends on the type of fountain you are using. If you have a garden pond that is covered by soil, it is very difficult to keep the water in the pond. Even if you do cover the pond with some kind of artificial surface, the water will still eventually evaporate and the only thing standing between you and your beautiful landscape pond is your bare feet!

A water fountain can make your garden pond look amazing. If you have a pond that is equipped with waterfalls, you can even enjoy watching the water flow down over rocks. Imagine how you would feel to sit on a stone island in the middle of a vast water body, admiring the motion of the water running down over you. Waterfalls can be a great place to put the pond skimmer since it makes falling water into the pond much easier and more controlled.

If you want something that is less decorative but still adds beauty to your garden pond, you may want to consider a wall fountain. Wall fountains look spectacular anywhere you put them. You can mount them on your home’s wall or on a post that is placed in the center of your garden pond. Because they are made of stone, they will naturally enhance the beauty of your stone garden pond. If you use a waterfall or water fountain in conjunction with a wall fountain, you will end up with the most natural-looking combination.

You may also wonder if doing fountains really help the water circulation in your ponds. After all, isn’t that why the water goes around and through the garden? The answer to that question is yes and no. Fountains actually circulate the water by drawing it into the fountain through its water spout. If you use a larger fountain, you will notice that the water goes over and around your pond rather than staying on top of the surface like it would normally do.

While a larger fountain will have more water going to and from your pond, if you use a smaller fountain, you will notice less water is actually going over the top. With less water circulating, this means less algae. Algae is the biggest enemy of beautiful water features. However, if you have a small waterfall or fountains, algae doesn’t get a chance to form.

Some people wonder if doing fountains help their garden pond’s oxygen balance. It really depends upon the type of garden pond you use. A waterfall and a fountain both force the water to be under pressure. This forces the oxygen levels in the water to be depleted. If you install a pond vacuum system, you can prevent this from happening as the suction will draw all of the oxygen out of the water.

In addition, some garden pond fountains come with aerators. These aeration systems draw the water out of the pond and pump it back into the garden pond. While this may not seem like much aeration, it is still beneficial. When you aerate your pond, you are increasing the amount of dissolved oxygen that is in the water. Do fountains help ponds?

Remember to only place garden ponds in ponds that have aeration systems in them. Without them, you will be wasting water and damaging your pond. Do fountains really help ponds? The answer to that question is that they will give your pond a beautiful look, but they will also increase the amount of oxygen and dissolved oxygen in the water making the water healthier.
