June's Landscaping

Whole-systems approach to the design, construction, and maintenance of the landscapes.

Which Landscape Style is Right for You?

Every homeowner knows well that landscaping is a significant element to the landscape design. The landscape surrounds the house and adds value to the property as well. With this in mind, you can make some fundamental decisions on how you can have your landscaping design enhance the overall beauty of your house. The landscape should embody and accentuate your family’s lifestyle. In the past, the only way to achieve this was by hiring an experienced landscaping company that could give you advice as to what plants should be grown, the types of trees and other landscape ornamentation you may need.

As the years went by and competition among landscaping companies grew, people were able to experience a wider range of designs. Today there are garden design concepts that incorporate both traditional and contemporary landscaping ideas. New comers to the art of landscaping design generally tend to follow what they see in magazines and on TV. Many also opt for ready-made flower beds instead of building their own. While this is one way to achieve beautiful gardens, it has certain drawbacks which we will discuss below.

The first modern concept that blossomed in the landscaping industry is known as geometric design. This landscaping style is characterized by simple and basic structures such as straight lines, shapes, and circles. These elements are usually made up of a single color like white, gray or black. The use of geometric elements gives the impression of a very tight, limited area, thus making it perfect for spacious urban environments.

Geometric designs are perfect for small gardens where you don’t need to fill an entire area. There are other landscaping concepts that follow a very different philosophy when it comes to designing landscapes for outdoor living space. These landscaping ideas are meant to encompass as much of your outdoor living space as possible, using as little landscaping area as possible. One of the most popular landscaping styles is to use as much natural vegetation as possible. You can try landscaping with plants ranging from small trees to evergreens, with evergreen trees occupying the majority of the landscaping area. Since these types of plants grow quite fast, they provide some relief to the viewer, giving you a feeling that everything around you is organic and living.

Another landscape style that is ideal for large gardens or landscapes that need to cover a large area is called water features. This design tip focuses on the integration of a focal point, usually a water feature such as a pond or fountain, with various colors, textures and materials such as rocks and gravel. A water feature can add to the overall look and feel of the landscaping and is suitable for those who prefer an air of serenity. However, if you have a large garden area, the presence of water feature may overwhelm the overall look.

One landscaping style that you should avoid is that of too many curves. Landscapes with too many contours are usually considered unappealing and have a cluttered appearance. To create a pleasing, attractive and well-designed landscape, you should try to incorporate a minimum of five to ten different styles and structures in your landscaping design. These include structures such as birdhouses, statues, arbors, gazebos, ponds, fountains and rock stacks.

Zen landscaping is one of the most popular landscape styles in use today. It’s based on the Zen concepts of simplicity, calmness and simplicity. The main focus of the zen landscaping style is to maintain a timeless beauty that’s both relaxing and inviting. Zen landscaping blends the elements of nature, tranquility and peace with the structures that you would typically find in oriental gardens. Zen landscaping makes use of natural materials and structures such as bamboo, rocks, wood, sand, crystals and rocks.

No matter which landscape style you choose, you will be able to add your own personal touch to your outdoor spaces. You can do this by choosing the right plants and flowers, and by using textures and colors that are suitable to your lifestyle and personality. Landscaping will allow you to enjoy the outdoors in a way that you may have only fantasized before. In fact, many people spend their lives in a landscaping design. In fact, it is a good idea for anyone to start designing their own landscape styles to add charm and character to their home and surroundings.
